GENERAL INFORMATION

Description:

Stays abroad for university lecturers and researchers with proven experience and professional careers; a project aimed at promoting mobility for the purposes of continuously updating knowledge. Mobility stays must be at centres located abroad which are highly competitive universities and research centres in the candidate’s scientific area.

Number of grants:

The expected number of grants is for 400 stays, up to 70 of which may be for stays in the USA under the Fulbright Program.

Requirements:

  • Obtaining a doctorate before 01 January 2010, except for permanent civil servants at Spanish public universities or those on the CSIC or Public Research Entity (OPI) research scales, who can apply for these grants even if they obtained a doctorate later than this date.
  • Actively working full time at, and having a proven link to, the home institution consenting to the grant applied for.
  • Not having stayed abroad for academic purposes for a total period of more than 6 months over the 4 years prior to the deadline for submitting applications, including any stay equal to or longer than one month in duration. You must still be compliant with this requirement on the starting date of your stay.

 Duration Stay start and end dates

  • Stays must last at least 3 months and at most 6 months.
  • Stays must take place between 01 May 2022 and 31 December 2022. However, in the case of lecturers/researchers who started or completed stays earlier, from January 2021 onwards, and duly stated this in the corresponding applications, awarded grants will be retroactively effective, provided that the stay is proved to meet the required terms of the call for applications.
  • Applicants who choose to submit applications for the Fulbright Program may only opt for a start date later than 01 June 2022.
  • In all cases, stays must be applied for and will be awarded from the first day of the starting month until the last day of the final month.

Projects to be carried out and host groups

  • In order to carry out a project, grant recipients must join a group at the host centre and one of its members must take responsibility for their teaching/research activity throughout the stay.  Applications not including a host group, formed of at least two lecturers/researchers from the corresponding centre, will not be accepted.

Destination centres

  • Stay applications must be for a single destination centre, which is the host centre.
  • Stays must be at centres located abroad which are highly competitive universities and research centres.
  • Under no circumstances may the destination country be the same as grant recipients’ nationality, unless they can prove their legal residence in Spain and an indefinite contractual link with the associated centre for at least 2 years.
  • International mobility is not mandatory only if candidates can prove a degree of disability higher than 65%; in such exceptional cases, the host centre may be in Spain, but a change in usual residence will be required.

Incompatibility

  • Subsidies will only be compatible with grant recipients’ contractual or civil service link with the associated centre.
  • Subsidies will be incompatible with any professional commitment or activity not directly linked to the funded research project that requires grant recipients to absent themselves from the host centre.

BUDGET

Subsidies comprise:

  • A monthly sum covering accommodation and living costs of between 2,150 and 3,100 euros per month, or pro rata for the corresponding days, if grant recipients do not stay at the host centre for the entire first and last month.
  • A sum for travel costs of up to 1,200 euros.
  • A sum for moving costs of up to 2,500 euros. These sums vary depending on the destination country; the amounts for each country can be found in the Annex to the call for applications.
  • All grant recipients must hold obligatory accident insurance, the cost of which may be included in the sum for moving costs.
  • Regarding healthcare provision, grant recipients under the General Spanish Social Security Regime with host centres in countries where the European Health Insurance Card is not valid must take out a healthcare policy, the cost of which may be included in the sum for moving costs.
  • Grant recipients belonging to MUFACE will have access to healthcare abroad under the terms established and covered by their mutual insurance provider and may only claim for taking out healthcare insurance if the host centre has a mandatory requirement for a specific policy or one with conditions not covered by MUFACE.

 

 

GRANT RECIPIENTS

 

Lecturers or researchers working as temporary civil servants, or with a contractual link as teaching staff members or researchers, for the formalisation of which a doctorate was required, and a contract end date later than the end date of the mobility stay applied for. This link must be with a research centre compliant with the mandatory requirements of article 8 of the call for applications.
